The Zoom H2 and the Edirol are just two of the exciting new portable recorders on the market.
I personally own the Zoom H2 and am pleased with the results and ease of use of the unit. It's not perfect, but does what I need when I want to record something away from my desktop recording setup.
You can find the Zoom H2 at greatly reduced prices. I recently purchased mine at Amazon.com for around $150. It's probably be reduced even lower by now. Below is my Zoom H2. It comes compete with most everything, pop screen, pouch, mini stand and transfer cable. One thing you will need is a carry bag. I found this camera bag for less than $10.
